Luxury experiential travel company &Beyond has launched an innovative mobile camping group set departure trip through some of India’s most remote wildlife and cultural destinations. Led by a professional, English-speaking guide, the itinerary offers special access to a series of fascinating experiences that are exclusive to &Beyond guests.
Kicking off in Delhi, the tour offers a taste of bustling throngs and historical architecture before heading off to discover some of Central India’s most iconic destinations. Specially designed for history fanatics, as well as cultural and wildlife enthusiasts, the tour’s next stop is Khajuraho. Here travellers explore exquisite temples dating back to the 10th and 11th centuries before being driven to Kaafila Camp, set below Kalinjar Fort, for a luxury camping experience. Based here, guests enjoy the opportunity to visit the temples, battlements and shrines of this magnificent fortress city, once home to dynasties of rulers. There is adequate time to stroll the impressive ruins of Kalinjar Fort and hike to the exquisite Ajaigarh Hill Fort, situated nearby.
The next stop is at Sarai at Toria, set on the edge of the Panna National Park. Exhilarating jungle drives set off in search of the majestic Bengal tiger, the elusive sloth bear and a plethora of other wildlife. The varied terrain of gorges, plateaus and forests, as well as the Ken River, creates the ideal opportunity to view a variety of wildlife, from leopard and fox to deer and antelope.
From here the tour goes on to the medieval town of Orchha, set on the banks of the Betwa River and tucked between picturesque hills. Travellers will spend a night at the Amar Hotel in between exploring the town’s palaces and monuments, including the magnificent Orchha Fort Complex, once the a hunting base for Mughal rulers.
The final three nights are at the elegant mobile tented Kaafila Camp, which boasts beautiful views of the Kuno River, with its resident crocodiles. Guests will venture into the depths of the Kuno-Palpur Wildlife sanctuary, spending entire days in search of leopard, hyena, fox, spotted deer and other wildlife. Other attractions nearby include the ancient town of Shivpuri, famed for the cenotaphs of the Gwalior maharajahs, as well as its ancient ruins. Guests will enjoy an authentic taste of rural India as they interact with the local tribes, including the Moghiya hunters, who will lead them on a walk through the forests skirting the reserve and show off their traditional fishing skills in the Kuno River.
The Journey is led by Hashim Tyabji, one of India’s most experienced private guides, who has served as consultant on various documentaries, including films by the BBC and National Geographic. Passionate about nature, as well as military and Indian history, Hashim is the author of a number of guides and books about the country.
With the first departure date set for 29 November 2018, the tour caters for just four to eight guests, ensuring a private and flexible experience. The rate for the 11-day journey is USD 7 999 per person sharing.
