Big stink after sewage sprays suitcases at airport

August 7, 2017 Headline News No Comments Email Email

For the second time in 18 months, arriving airline passengers have discovered to their disgust that an airport plumbing problem has sprayed their suitcases with sewage.

Southwest Airlines passengers found hundreds of bags going around on the carousel drenched and stinking.

It turned out that someone had stuffed paper towels into an upstairs toilet. The blocked toilet had then overflowed and poured its contents through the floor, sending toilet water and sewage cascading onto the baggage carousel below at Nashville International Airport in Tennessee.

The airport called in a rapid-response clean-up crew to cleanse and sanitise the bags, CBS Philadelphia reported. Southwest said it would replace some of the bags and suitcases – presumably those found to be saturated or malodorous.

Affected passengers were shocked to learn that a similar incident had happened in June last year at the same airport.

“That’s what you call a crappy vacation,” one of the CBS newsreaders quipped.
