Passengers from Sydney who boarded a Jetstar flight to Phuket on Wednesday found themselves unexpectedly in Bali instead – after the captain diverted there to offload a group of heavily muscled, violently brawling men said to be drunk.
Horrified passengers said blood was flowing and children were screaming as a wild fight erupted among six passengers on flight JQ27, forcing flight crew to divert to Bali. On arrival in Bali, the rowdies were handed over to Indonesian police.
“A group of six passengers travelling together were being extremely disruptive amongst themselves and refused requests from our crew,” Jetstar said, adding that after offloading the unruly passengers, the flight continued without incident to Phuket. With the unscheduled stop in Bali, the flight took 11 hours rather than the customary eight or nine hours.
Members of the group are likely to have spent the night in rougher conditions than they were expecting. They were reportedly deported back to Australia yesterday.
The Huffington Post quoted Jetstar saying that others aboard the plane “supported the decision to offload the group in Bali and thanked the crew”.
Media published pictures of several burly, heavily tattooed men said to have been involved in the brawl. 7 News screened footage of the group knocking back beer at a Sydney Airport bar beforehand.
