Boao Night for Sichuan, the Voice of Tourism

BOAO Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2014 was held from April 8 to 11 in Hainan Province, China. The Tourism Administration of Sichuan Province promoted tourism resources to around 3,000 guests from mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, and foreign countries in a fresh new way by holding the “Boao Night for Sichuan 2014,” which marks a new highlight and pioneers flexible communication in the history of BOAO Forum to beyond world political and economic exchanges.

On April 9 evening, Mr. Hao Kangli, Director-general of the Tourism Administration of Sichuan Province, greeted all guests and media friends at “Boao Night for Sichuan 2014” on behalf of the tourism sector of Sichuan Province. He inaugurated the “Night” together with Mr. Owens, Vice Chairman of the New York Stock Exchange, and Mr. Xu Xiaoming, a famous Hong Kong director and Chairman of HK TV Association. Celebrities represented by Mr. Lu Zhiyuan, Director of Hainan Tourism Development Committee, Ms. Liu Xuan, World Diving Champion, and Mr. Chen Yujie, Vice President of PR Newswire Asia-Pacific also joined the grand event.

“tsichuan” Unveiled with Versatile Significance

The official website of Sichuan tourism information http://www.tsichuan.com/ was unveiled at the “Night.” Its inclusive frames, diverse contents, smart layout, and multilingual versions with English, French, German, Russian, Spanish, Japanese, and Korean included, surprised all audiences.

Mr. Yuan Shijun, Director of Marketing Section said, “It can be understood in diverse ways, like ‘to travel, tour, touch, and taste,’ and if in Chinese, it represents ‘Tianfu’ — the Land of Abundance, ‘Tiandi’ — heaven and earth, and ‘Tianxiang’ — full of charm.” He also said, “We go on a trip not only for sightseeing but also to contact and taste. We hope to demonstrate Sichuan Province in diverse ways to visitors all around the world. We introduced ‘tsichuan’ at the BOAO Forum in the hope of sharing tourism resources of Sichuan Province with people from the whole world.”

Daocheng Yading is hailed as the last Shangri-la. Last year, the Story of Daocheng Yading, written by Mr. Wang Zhifa, Vice Director-general of China National Tourism Administration, came to the market. Depicting a real Daocheng Yading from the point of view of tourists in a soulful way, the book has fascinated tourists worldwide with the astonishingly beautiful scenery described in it.

At the “Sichuan Night,” English version of the Story of Daocheng Yading was released for the first time. And Mr. Wang Zhifa shared his feeling during writing the book via a VCR.

At the “Night,” the result of “The Favorite Sichuan Tourist Books” Award jointly held by Tourism Administration of Sichuan Province and AMAZON China was announced. Among the 300 books which are written about Sichuan tourism and sold at AMAZON, 10 books including the Story of Daocheng Yading stood out on readers’ and netizens’ recommendation. Meanwhile, Sinomaps Press, Chengdu Times Press, and Chemical Industry Press were conferred with the “Special Contribution Award among Sichuan Tourist Publications.”

Gather Special Resources and Promote New Tourist Routes

Sichuan Province stands out from China’s tourist map for its 5 world natural and cultural heritages as well as its rich and distinctive tourism resources.

At the “Sichuan Night,” Sichuan promoted 10 tourist routes in Tibet, the Last Shangri-la — Daocheng Yading, A Trip to South Silk Road, A Trip for Pandas, and A Trip for Foods.

Liu Xuan, Xu Xiaoming, and Chen Yujie drew 6 awards from the audience and they were provided with free trips to the Jiuzhai Valley, Daocheng Yading, and so on.

Liu Xuan said that she would love to speak for tourism sector of Sichuan Province as a daughter-in-law of Sichuan and she would start her trip to Sichuan as soon as possible. And Xu Xiaoming said that Sichuan had the most beautiful and diverse tourism resources and products and he would like to set some of his films in Sichuan and make customized films for Sichuan tourism.

Sichuan Elements Shine at BOAO and Panda Dolls Delight Guests Worldwide

From the hotel where the guests stay to the conference center, innocent panda dolls as the typical element of Sichuan Province won most popularity. Despite the tight schedule, numerous guests from home and abroad, media workers, and the forum staff surged to the exhibition of “Sichuan Night” to enjoy the beautiful scenery pictures and left with pandas dressed in Tang suits and panda clamps. And over 20,000 promotional brochures of variety were dispatched in only 2 days.

Mr. Zhou Wenzhong, Secretary-general of the BOAO Forum for Asia and former Chinese ambassador to the U.S. said, “The national treasure of China pandas attracted attention of all participants at the BOAO Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2014, ‘Boao Night for Sichuan’ is a courageous try to promote Sichuan tourism resources.
