Silversea Cruises is offering agents a bonus 5% commission on new bookings made on two of its Camp Leakey voyages, departing in June and July 2019. The two expedition voyages on board Silver Discoverer offer guests the chance to discover Central Borneo’s eminent orangutan sanctuary. Guests will be joined by guest lecturer Dr. Biruté Mary Galdikas, a renowned primatologist, internationally recognised for her studies and work with the orangutans of Borneo, in their natural habitat.

Travelling from either Darwin to Bali or Bali to Singapore, guests will discover a world of wild animals and spectacular volcanoes as they journey through the immense beauty of Indonesia. Upon arrival into the port of Kumai, guests will enjoy an overnight stay before exploring Tanjung Puting National Park and its legendary Camp Leakey. Operated by Dr. Galdikas’ non-profit Orangutan Foundation International (OFI), Camp Leakey is the site of the anthropologist’s pioneering research in the wild. Silversea is the only cruise line partnering with Camp Leakey, and offers its guests exceptional wildlife-focused experiences. Brad Siviour, Senior Expedition Leader, Silversea Cruises, who is currently on board Silver Discoverer in the Kimberley, said:

“Camp Leakey is one of my favourite places in the world. For me, the best part about visiting Camp Leakey is cruising along the Sekonyer River, though Tanjung Puting National Park. On the way up, we use zodiacs to get to Pondok Tanggui and Camp Leakey, and coming back down river we use local boats called Klotoks, which are large, stable wooden boats with tables and chairs, and bean bags.

“There is nothing like cruising along the Sekonyer River while troops of Proboscis Monkeys leap from tree to tree. Some of the most stunning birds can be seen within very close proximity, including the Ruddy Kingfisher, Red and Black Broadbill and Rhinoceros Hornbill. In the early morning and late afternoon, wild orangutans are often spotted resting or feeding among the tree tops – an absolute privilege to see.”

Considered the world’s foremost authority on the orangutan, Dr. Galdikas will lead a private tour through Camp Leakey, where guests can enjoy close-up encounters with these amazing animals. During an enriching on-board presentation, Dr. Galdikas will also share insights from her many years devoted to the study, care and preservation of these endangered primates.
