Sanctuary Chobe Chilwero is the latest property within Sanctuary Retreats’ luxury portfolio of African safari camps and lodges to be relaunched this month after a major facelift.

Dramatically perched on a hill above the Chobe River on the edge of Chobe National Park in northeast Botswana, the Retreat’s fifteen suites represent the perfect blend of modern design and distinct traditional African finishes. Featuring elegant furnishings in a palette of pale sky blues, soft greys and sandy yellows, each one comes with a heavenly bed, a generous freestanding bath, and its own rain shower. Outside, guests can relax on their own expansive private terrace, just the spot to sip a cocktail, enjoy a romantic private dinner or simply soak up unparalleled panoramic views across islands and floodplains as far across as Namibia. Even better, three of the new suites at Sanctuary Chobe Chilwero feature an extra bedroom, making them an ideal option for families.

The Lodge’s lounge, library and dining room also showcase a new, fresh expression of safari style, inspired by the surrounding landscape. The chic interiors boast natural bleached timbers, complemented by soft geometric prints and beautiful mosaic floorings. Outside, an elevated, shaded veranda looks out across the Lodge’s gardens to the stunning vistas beyond, all offset by the unique sound-track of the African bush.

Nor does Sanctuary Chobe Chilwero disappoint for lovers of wildlife. Renowned for its immense teak forest, Chobe National Park is home to the world’s largest remaining population of elephants (estimated to be around 100,000), as well as an abundance of other animals including buffalo, bushbuck and Puku antelope, and more than 400 species of birds, while lion, leopard and rare wild dog roam the broad plains. Guests can also experience a unique water safari cruise on the Chobe River in one of Sanctuary Chobe Chilwero’s specially adapted motorboats for a chance to spot fish eagles, long-neck herons and Nile crocodiles, all while exploring the river’s many tributaries.

After a day spent on safari, the full-service spa, with its unique tree-top treatment room, is just the spot to indulge in a little pampering. Alternatively guests can relax in the Lodge’s split-level swimming pool, while more energetic travellers will love the new gym replete with a treadmill, rowing machine, exercise bike and weights.

From the kitchen guests can also continue to enjoy the mouth-watering meals fusing African and Western cuisines for which Sanctuary Chobe Chilwero has long been famous, all served by friendly staff with personalised hospitality.
