The split-up of ‘Brangelina’ – Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie – provided an excellent marketing opportunity for a sharp-eyed and creative Norwegian Airlines executive.
While news of the breakup a couple of weeks ago shocked fans of Hollywood’s most famous couple, Norwegian swiftly came out with an ad for one-way flights from London Gatwick to Los Angeles, under the banner: “Brad is single”.
Some saw it as opportunism, others as an example of marketing genius. The ad was swiftly tweeted around the world, with social media boosting its initial reach.
Britain’s Daily Telegraph uncovered one tweet that alluded to Pitt’s former marriage to Jennifer Aniston and called for passengers named Jennifer to be given a 50% discount on flights to LAX.
Meanwhile, for those interested in the goss, Jolie has asked for custody of the couple’s six children, Maddox, 15, Pax, 12, Zahara, 11, Shiloh, 10, and eight-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox. A bitter divorce battle looms.
All rather sad, but if Norwegian Airlines is crying, it’s doing so on the way to the bank.
