Australia’s own Bundaberg Rum Distillery Visitor Experience, which entails visitors walking through a series of converted 75,000-litre oak rum vats and learning a lot as they go, has taken out a coveted international award for the second consecutive year – and now Prince Charles is coming to visit.

At the Drinks International Distillery Challenge Awards in London, the Bundaberg Rum Distillery Experience in Bundaberg, Queensland, was named World’s Best Distillery Retail Experience while The Spirit of Bundaberg Festival was awarded World’s Best Distillery Event.

The awards recognise innovation and excellence amongst distilleries and associated businesses.

Bundaberg Rum also received a Highly Commended award in the World’s Best Visitor Centre category.

The accolades follow past wins for Bundaberg Rum at the Distillery Challenge Awards. In 2017, the Visitor Experience was crowned the World’s Best Distillery Retail Experience and Educational Experience. In 2016, The Spirit of Bundaberg Festival was voted The World’s Best Distillery Event.

Prince Charles

It has now been proclaimed that Charles, Prince of Wales, will visit the Bundaberg Rum Distillery as part of a tour of the region on 6 April 2018.

“Visitors near and far are invited to join in the celebrations,” the distillery has announced.

The Spirit of Bundaberg Festival, described as “the largest food and rum festival in Australia” will return to the distillery grounds on 13 October 2018 as part of Bundaberg Rum’s 130th anniversary celebrations. This Bundy celebration combines food, fun, cocktail masterclasses and live music.

The Visitor Experience offers two tour options in addition to the distillery tour – The Bundaberg Rum Museum Experience and a Blend Your Own Rum Experience.

Blend your own

The Bundaberg Rum Museum Experience involves visitors walking through a series of huge oak vats that have matured hundreds of thousands of litres of Bundaberg Rum. The immersing-in-the-vats experience helps impart the history of one of Australia’s favourite spirits.

The museum also houses the world’s largest collection of Bundaberg rum bottles.

Bundaberg Rum Distillery Tour takes visitors deep into the heart of a fully operational distillery. It ends in the Bundaberg Rum tasting bar where visitors are invited to sample a drop (or two) of some of Bundaberg Rum’s top-shelf, award-winning products.
