A real estate agent from Hawaii, accused of drunkenly flashing her breasts and throwing a half-full can of soft drink at a flight attendant, has denied she aimed at the attendant.
“That is not true. I didn’t mean to throw it at him. I was trying to hit the trash can that was next to him,” the woman told Hawaii News Now.
Witnesses told authorities the suspect repeatedly smoked an e-cigarette after boarding in Las Vegas, exposed her breasts and swore at the flight attendant on the Allegiant Air flight before throwing the can.
She was detained and questioned by the FBI and will likely face federal charges, the news outlet reported.
In a story also picked up by the New York Daily News, the woman placed some of the blame on the flight attendant, saying “I think he had a bad day and was taking it out on me with a bad attitude.”
Witnesses say the woman used an e-cigarette (a process known as “vaping”) as she entered the aircraft in Las Vegas, and a flight attendant told her to put it out, which she did.
The suspect denied having vaped again on the plane. Some witnesses say otherwise.
In a statement, Allegiant Air said it could not comment on the incident because it is part of an ongoing investigation.
The airline did, however, issue a statement: “FAA regulations prohibit the use of e-cigarettes while on board an aircraft, and also require that all passengers comply with crew member instructions to ensure the safety of all on board.”
The maximum penalty in the US for interfering with or assaulting a flight attendant is a term of imprisonment not exceeding 20 years, and/or a heavy fine.
