Spread the love

EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum is inviting people of Irish heritage all over the world to bring their family name back to Irish shores.

A major new exhibition at EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum in Dublin is celebrating Irish family names and paying tribute to Irish people who emigrated.

The Power of the Name exhibition is adding the names to an interactive exhibition in the museum, showing the spread of Irish emigrant names throughout the world.

Every emigrant who left Irish shores took one very important thing with them, something that gave them their strength, their identity, their power to change the world and something that they would pass on to future generations – their name. By collating the names of people who moved from Ireland, EPIC is giving millions of people of Irish descent an opportunity to reconnect their ancestor’s name with their homeland.

“Every person who left Ireland is part of our emigration history.” says Patrick Greene, CEO and Museum Director of EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum. “The life they started in a new country is part of the impact of the Irish abroad and this exhibition aims to pay tribute to them and spotlight a powerful part of their story – their name. These journeys were not taken lightly and this exhibition marks the decisions they made to leave and celebrates the journeys they made and the lives they went on to build.”

EPIC, the world’s first fully digital museum, is one of the most popular visitor attractions in Dublin and was voted Europe’s Leading Tourist Attraction for 2019 at The World Travel Awards™. The state-of-the-art interactive experience, which is contained in 20 galleries, is located on the banks of the River Liffey, the original departure point for many of Ireland’s emigrants.

Featuring personal stories of love, triumph, adventure and adversity, the museum tells the story of the Irish diaspora across the globe, the impact they have had, the contributions they have made and the influence they have had globally.

People can add their name to the Power of the Name exhibition via the EPIC website (www.epicchq.com/names). As well as their names, the exhibition will include where they emigrated from and the year they left.

The Irish Emigration Museum also houses a genealogy centre, which offers consultations with experts, access to Irish family history records and information to help people explore their Irish ancestry.
