The best of the best will be in action at the Brisbane Showgrounds tonight and tomorrow as the state’s top dogs compete for the prestigious titles of Queensland Puppy of the Year and Dog of the Year.For the first time the Brisbane Showgrounds will host the Dogs Queensland event, which has attracted judges from across the globe including Russia, Japan, South Africa and El Salvador.
However, the showgrounds is no stranger to hosting events of the canine variety.
Each year the Royal Queensland Show (Ekka) features the Canine Competition – the Ekka’s most popular competition with more than 2,000 entries.
RNA Chief Executive Brendan Christou said he was thrilled Dogs Queensland had chosen to hold its prestigious event at the Brisbane Showgrounds.
“After hosting hundreds of canine exhibitors at the Royal Queensland Show in August, we are pleased to welcome many of them back again,” Mr Christou said.
“The variety of events being held at the showgrounds throughout the year continues to showcase the venue’s versatility and popularity.
“Last weekend thousands of German festival enthusiasts took over the showgrounds for the final weekend of Oktoberfest Brisbane and we look forward to our first major music festival of the summer – Stereosonic – taking place in early December.”
