Brisbane’s Tiffany reaches out at NIDA Open

Brisbane school student Tiffany Davison has been challenging herself with a NIDA course over the summer holidays. ‘I’ve always loved being dramatic,’ she said. ‘Whether it was putting on performances for my grandparents, or playing dress ups with my sister, being dramatic seemed to be my strong suit.’

‘As a senior high school student, pressure around choosing a career path or ‘what’s next’ creates a great, big question mark in my head. A two-week program with the undivided attention of dedicated, knowledgeable, and relatable teachers at NIDA was so rewarding. I extended and pushed myself out of my comfort zone,’ said Tiffany.

‘I was challenged to do things and think in ways I had not thought of before. My ability to understand ‘the process’ has strengthened my performance and I am able to take away such great advice to now further extend myself even after the end of the course.’

‘It’s a whole other world, the world of theatre. A very free and accepting one where you can be completely comfortable,’ she said.

The courses are artist-led by Australia’s finest performing arts professionals, which means all the students experience learning from performers active in the industry, so they get a real-life perspective on the performing arts in acting, design, directing, presenting and writing.

‘NIDA Open courses are suitable for children at every level – for beginners, for those wishing to apply skills they have already learnt, or for those wanting to extend into advanced areas,’ said Gillian Meisner-Lemon, Acting Head of NIDA Open.
