British & Irish Lions Tame Sydney Harbour

Sailing Sydney hosted an event recently on Sydney Harbour for HSBC, the major sponsor of the British and Irish Lions, and on-board were five of the touring players – Adam Jones, Dan Lydiate, Mako Vunipola, Tom Youngs and Rob Kearney – who sailed beneath a custom-built, 320 square metre red spinnaker designed to replicate the Lions’ legendary jersey.

During the course of the event, Sailing Sydney’s 75-foot America’s Cup sailing yacht, AUS21, did two full runs of the harbour, with all on-board, including the players, working the grinders, and assisting with the spinnaker hoists and drops.

Established in 2010 Sailing Sydney (www.sailingsydney.net) owns and operates AUS21 and AUS40, Australia’s only America’s Cup sailing yachts. The company – represented in Australia by Tourism Portfolio (www.tourismportfolio.com.au) – offer everyday sailing and racing experiences for individuals, and sailing events for corporate and private groups.
