Budapest Airport is pleased to announce that as the main operating base for Hungary’s largest airline, Wizz Air, it will become home to an eighth Wizz Air aircraft next year.

The new Airbus A320 will be based at Budapest Airport from March 2014 so further strengthening the presence of Central Europe’s largest airline at the airport.  The news was announced by Wizz Air CEO József Váradi at a press conference held at Budapest Airport on September 5th.

Wizz Air reported that the new Budapest based aircraft will provide capacity increases on a number of routes from Budapest to London, Eindhoven, Barcelona, Istanbul, Rome, Madrid, Catania, Malta and Bari. It anticipates that its seat capacity from the Hungarian capital will increase from 2.4M in 2013 to 2.9M in 2014. Váradi commented that whilst Wizz Air has a strong presence at Budapest the company will continue to explore other possibilities.

Wizz Air is marking its ninth year at Budapest since it began flights in 2004 and currently serves a total of 35 cities and 18 countries from the Hungarian capital. The main base of Budapest complements other Wizz Air operating bases in the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Romania, Lithuania and Serbia.

Wizz Air is the largest low cost airline in Central and Eastern Europe and currently operates a young fleet of 39 Airbus A320 aircraft, operating from 17 bases with over 250 routes connecting 84 destinations across 30 countries.
