Beyond the traditional tourist route are the hidden treasures of an ancient land known as Persia, very much a magnet for adventure-loving travellers who love to dabble in history.
Australian-based small group travel specialist Byroads Travel considers the destination – today known as Iran – as one of the region’s most significant.
“There are few countries in the world where the difference between international reputation and local reality is so acute,” said Steve Mortimer who, with 30 years experience in the travel industry, has visited more than 100 countries.
“Travellers who take the plunge and visit Iran will be rewarded with fabulous mosques, authentic bazaars and wonderful ancient cities – along with curious and extremely friendly people,” he said.
Byroads Travel is offering a 15-day Persia Unveiled tour which takes in all the major highlights including Tehran, Shiraz, Persepolis, Yazd, the hillside village of Abyaneh and Kashan. Three days are also spent in the celebrated city of Isfahan.
The tours start in Tehran – on October 23, 2017 and October 22, 2018 and are priced from USD3895 per person, twin share (about AUD$5443)
