Café del Mar is proud to support the Multiple Sclerosis Limited, Australia on Wednesday 24 May with a special fundraising event.

Hosted by Sandra Sully, one of Australia’s most respected journalists and news presenters, and MS Ambassador.  Multiple Sclerosis is a cause that sits close to Sandra’s heart, her sister-in-law was diagnosed in 2004 when she was just 34. Sandra is well aware of the struggles Angelique lives with on a daily basis.

I’m thrilled to be hosting the MS Society event at Café del Mar on May 24. While it’s going to be a fun evening, more importantly it’s about raising funds to help people living with MS as well as supporting important research into finding a cure for this debilitating disease. Knowing friends and family who struggle with this illness every day, it’s so important to me to do what I can to help.” Says, Sandra Sully.

Joining Sandra is one of Australia’s most loved media personalities and comedians, Mikey Robins who will provide the entertainment by bringing his wit and humor to the stage to keep guests entertained.

Whilst supporting a great cause, guests will be treated to a delicious three course dinner in Café del Mar’s famous Mediterranean inspired, modern Australian style. The dinner offering will be accompanied by quality beer, and wine kindly provided by Tomich Wines.

All profits from the evening will be donated to MS charities, a cause that is very personal to the Café del Mar team who have also experienced close family members suffering from MS.

Their close friend, Carmel Romeo tragically lost her brother to MS and was later personally diagnosed with the disease 10 years ago. Carmel has worked tirelessly to help raise awareness for MS, she has taken part in many fund-raising activities including the MS Walk & Fun Run and she hopes this event will raise further funds and awareness for the charity.

“Being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis was mind-blowing. Being told that I had lived with it for a long time totally confused me. Then I thought about how lucky I was to get to my 50s with multiple sclerosis, and to have had children and grandchildren and lived a full life.  I realised I wanted the best life possible for all who live with multiple sclerosis … so I became a volunteer & fundraiser. Today, multiple sclerosis has fully metabolised itself into my life but I have decided to do what I can so that into the future it will be defeated.” Says, Carmel Romeo.

MS affects over 23,000 in Australia and more than two million diagnosed worldwide. Most people are diagnosed between the ages of 20-40, but it can affect younger and older people too. Roughly three times as many women have MS as men. (Source: MS Australia).
