InterContinental Kuala Lumpur is honouring the traditional Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival of lunar worship and moon gazing with the launch of an exclusive, opulently presented collection of the season’s indispensable delicacy, mooncake.

Lunar luxuries: InterContinental Kuala Lumpur's spectacular InterContinental Mooncake Collection offers an opulent take on this quintessential seasonal gift. The definitive festival gift, the InterContinental Mooncake Collection is delivered in sleek iconic boxes reminiscent of the most in-vogue luxury baggage designs and contains a selection of five variants, perfectly formed using individual handmade hardwood moulds imported from the master craftsmen of Hong Kong.

The mooncakes themselves are made in house by InterContinental Kuala Lumpur’s Chef Wong, honouring his ancestors by using authentic ancient recipes that will send tastebuds soaring ecstatically to the heavens like the lunar goddess Chang’er.

“An iconic symbol of Chinese heritage throughout the world, mooncakes are both sumptuously luxuriant and yet heart-warmingly familiar,” enthused Chef Wong.

Perfection, packaged: The chic design of InterContinental Kuala Lumpur's stunning mooncake presentation packages encorporates an iconic scarlet and ivory motif. “This is why we have developed a selection of mooncakes that offers a multitude of fillings from generations-old favourites like white lotus paste with single or double yolk and pandan paste with egg custard and walnuts, to modern twists such as white chocolate paste, tiramisu paste and the South East Asian favourite variant filled with durian meat and oats,” he added.

Just as the Ming revolutionaries used a variety of patterns and letterings on mooncakes to surprise the Mongolian rulers, so too will InterContinental be presenting a variety of impressive and visually stunning packaging choices to surprise and delight recipients with. InterContinental has been offering a unique mooncake selection annually, each year more striking than the last.

Made in Malaysia: InterContinental Kuala Lumpur will be offering its 7 Stars Premium Collection which features the biggest mooncake made in Malaysia. The design of the spectacular InterContinental Mooncake Collection, now in its third year of running, is inspired by iconic designer Louis Vuitton, featuring a characteristically chic red and ivory ornamentation.

“Part of the joy of mooncake is slicing down through the soft crust to reveal the filling inside, but even the packaging, decoration and presentation can offer memorable moments of intigue and surprise,” said Chef Wong.

“That is why this year we have pulled out all the stops with three different packaging offerings including the 7 Stars Premium Collection which features the biggest mooncake made in Malaysia with a span of over 6 inches made from a specially commissioned hand-carved mould which took five weeks of dedication to create,” he added.

Sales of the distinguished mooncake selections will commence on July 1 and will be available until the end of August. There will also be an exclusive and informative mooncake baking demonstration at InterContinental to hail in the start of the festival period and honour age-old baking traditions.

The stunning mooncake selection boxes are on sale startingJuly 1 with prices starting at RM68 per collection.
