China Southern’s home port of Guangzhou in southern China is more affordable and accessible than ever, thanks to stopover packages coming onto the market to capitalise on its new visa-free status.

Guangzhou RestaurantFrom tomorrow Australians flying to the rest of the world on China Southern’s famed Canton Route can spend up to 72 hours without a visa in the home of Cantonese food at the mouth of the mighty Pearl River Delta.

Guangzhou (pron. Gwung-jo) is the capital of China’s southern-most Guangdong Province.  It is the third largest city in China and its mainly Cantonese people are industrious but laid back and fun-loving.

Along with nearby Hong Kong and Macau, Guangzhou provided a trading bridgehead into China in the 1850s, and has hosted Asia’s largest trade event, the twice-yearly Canton Trade Fair (usually each April and October), since 1957.

Guangzhou and its 13 million people personify the changes flowing from China’s emergence as a leading holiday destination, with ancient temples and shop houses sitting alongside luxury high rise hotels and bustling shopping emporiums offering amazing food, shopping, accommodation and cultural experiences.

“Guangzhou and Guangdong Province’s new visa-free status brings them into line with Beijing and Shanghai for accessibility,” said China Southern General Manager Australia/New Zealand Henry He.

“But best of all it means our Australian passengers can break their overseas trip for up to three days visa free in one of the world’s most exciting and affordable cities to sample some of the very best mainland China has to offer.”

Sydney-based Creative Tours is offering two nights’ accommodation with breakfast and guided tour of Guangzhou from $213* per person twin share. The package is available now for travel until next March and can be booked on 1300 301 711 or at
