Captain Cook Cruises MV Reef Endeavour departed Denarau this week on its scheduled eleven nights Lau Islands Cruise packed with food, clothing and basic supplies that will be delivered straight to the Lau Islands after the Islands and their villages were destroyed in the recent category 5 cyclone that hit Fiji.

Immediately following Cyclone Winston, Captain Cook Cruises Fiji, whose operations were unaffected by the storm, partnered with Rotary Club Fiji, the charity Sea Mercy and The Rotary Club of Sydney Cove.

Rotary Club Fiji and Sea Mercy have supplied all the goods being transported directly to the Lau Islands on the cruise ship, MV Reef Endeavour.

The Rotary Club of Sydney Cove is collecting cash donations in Australia on Captain Cook Cruises Fiji’s behalf.   Funds raised will go to Rotary Club Fiji so they can continue to purchase the much needed supplies and Captain Cook Cruises Fiji can deliver them straight to the Lau and Yasawa Islands on their weekly three, four, seven and eleven night cruises.

According to Jackie Charlton, Captain Cook Cruises Fiji, Australian Managing Director, “as you may be aware, a Tropical Cyclone of quite strong intensity affected the Fiji Islands last week and although most Fijian resorts are now up and running and our cruise operations were unaffected, the storm did have a big effect in the beautiful remote islands of Fiji that we visit, including The Lau Group and Yasawa Islands.

This week the Reef Endeavour departed on its scheduled eleven night Lau Islands cruise and although we don’t know exactly what to expect when we visit the islands and their villages, we do know that we will be able to deliver much needed basic supplies like clothing and food straight to them.

I cannot thank Rotary Fiji, Sea Mercy and The Rotary Club Sydney Cove enough. They have purchased supplies for the islands and collected donations so further supplies can be purchased. I would also like to thank all those that have generously donated. Many Fijian’s in the remote outer islands have lost everything and villages, schools and lives need to be rebuilt and we are honoured to be able to assist in this rebuilding.”

The Rotary Club of Sydney in partnership with Captain Cook Cruises Fiji and Rotary Fiji will continue to raise funds so more supplies can be purchased and be delivered direct to the Fiji Islands.  To contribute to this fund you can make a donation as follows;

Bank: Westpac
Branch: Royal Exchange
Name: Rotary Club of Sydney Cove Inc

BSB: 032-002 A/C No 155731

Internet banking donors should provide their surname/Fiji
