Car rental firm in big Australasian multi-brand push

Enterprise Rent-a-Car, National and Alamo will open new locations in Australia this year as Australian car rental company Redspot expands the Asia Pacific presence of its various franchise brands.

Redspot Car Rentals took off in 1989 with a fleet of just two courtesy cars; a Holden Ute and a Laser and a team of one, managing director Dan Mekler.

An issued statement last week said new plans included re-branding all Redspot locations by trading under the global trading names of franchise partners Enterprise Rent-a-Car, National and Alamo.

“The signage rebrand of all locations will be the only difference; Redspot will continue to provide the same great service just with new branded signage.”

“Enterprise Rent-a-Car and Redspot have launched this new aggressive growth plan for the Australia market in order to meet Australia’s transportation needs of domestic and international renters,” the statement said.

It quoted Mekler saying the expansion was the latest milestone in the company’sAsia-Pacific growth strategy.

“Enterprise Rent-a-Car locations will be serviced by Redspot in its franchise partner capacity, delivering the same great cars and commercial vehicles, service and most importantly, rental rates,” Mekler said.

“Redspot has a long history of success and shares with its franchise partner the same values and commitment to exceptional customer service.

“As the exclusive Australian and New Zealand franchise partner of Enterprise Rent-a-Car, the largest car rental company in the world as measured by revenue, fleet and employees with USD 20.9 billion in revenue, the decision for the Australian arm of the Redspot business to trade under its franchise partner’s global brand names has been made to achieve a more consistent overall global branding model.

“The rationale behind this decision is based on global practise with only Enterprise Rent-a-Car branding in metropolitan and regional areas moving forward.

“The company rebrand will have these new locations up and running soon and ready to cater to the many needs of business, domestic use and travellers alike. The economical move will see Enterprise Rent-a-Car utilising its ready-to-use signage for branding and marketing purposes in all its upcoming branch openings.”

Redspot said that in coming months, it would open in the following new locations: Rocklea/QLD; Coogee, Lidcombe, Mascot, Port Macquarie/NSW; Launceston CBD, Hobart CBD/TAS; Beverley/SA; Coburg, North Geelong/VIC and Christchurch/NZ.
