Seychelles-TravelThe ‘Carnaval International de Victoria’ that is staged annually in the Seychelles during the last weekend of April has become a must attend event because of the diversity of culture parading together in the smallest and one of the safest capital Cities of the World.

7magazine reunion carnivalThe 7 Magazine of La Reunion has just published their report on the 2014 edition of this carnival staged in the mid-ocean islands of the Seychelles, and if pictures do speak a thousand words, then the report safely says that the 2014 edition of the Carnaval International de Victoria was another resounding success.

Twenty six international delegations inclusive of Notting Hill Carnival of the UK, the Brazil Carnival, the Dusseldorf Carnival of Germany, the Carnival from Indonesia and the Carnival from Trinidad & Tobago and Cultural troupes from the Community of Nations eager to showcase their country through culture, and in so doing through their very own population.

The 2014 edition of the Seychelles Carnaval International de Victoria that was jointly co-hosted by Seychelles, La Reunion, Madagascar, Mayotte and South Africa KwaZulu Natal has been described by the respected Canadian Journalist Carol Perehudoff as follows.

Carol Perehudoff writes following her stay in Seychelles covering the 2014 edition of the Carnaval International de Victoria: “Sometimes the things you think you know turn you upside down, dunk your head in the Indian Ocean and make you see reality in a different cinnamon-scented way. This is how the Seychelles Carnival changed my perspective about carnivals, and how I came to believe that the Seychelles Carnival can change the world.

Three days ago this is what I thought: A carnival is a great big party!

Today, this is what I think: A carnival is a great big party! But it can also do so much more. The Seychelles Carnival can change the world, one little float at a time.

And how, you may ask, can the Seychelles Carnival change the world?

The recipe for changing the world through a carnival is simple: Don’t make it one carnival, no matter how proud you are of your culture. Make it the Carnival of All Carnivals.

Bring in floats, dancers, acrobats and performers (and journalists) from all over the world, and presto, it becomes the Olympics of the carnival world”.

Tourism Authorities promoting their country as the destination of choice are all descending on Seychelles with their own cultural troupe because they are seeking press coverage from the large number of international press who make this trip to the Seychelles to cover the carnival an annual pilgrimage.

Alain St.Ange, the Seychelles Minister responsible for Tourism and Culture said that through the Carnaval International de Victoria that is staged annually in the Seychelles tourism destinations are using their culture to be seen and to be counted as destinations with more than just glossy brochures. “Putting one’s culture in the forefront brings dept to one’s destination” Alain St.Ange said as he closed the 2014 edition of the Carnival in Seychelles.  “When one’s culture is showcased we are putting our people at the centre of our tourism development” the Minister of Tourism and Culture of the Seychelles said. To the press present Minister St.Ange also quoted Mahatma Gandhi famous saying:- “The culture of a Nation lives in the heart and in the soul of its people” adding that it was therefore the duty of every Government through their responsible Minister to place their people at the centre of the development of their respective tourism industry because this is a sure way to bring out their unique culture.
