Carnival Australia CEO Ann Sherry Highlights Cruise Season Impact

March 13, 2014 Cruise No Comments Email Email

As Australia’s summer cruise season reaches its height, Carnival Australia CEO Ann Sherry today estimated that around 240,000 local, interstate and international passengers and crew had travelled on cruise ships in Sydney in February and March alone.

ANN AT COMMITTEE FOR SYDNEY LUNCH

Speaking at a special Committee for Sydney stakeholder lunch, Ms Sherry said, that in terms of ‘value added opportunity’, the number of passengers was the equivalent of about 300 fully laden A380 aircraft arriving in the city with all of the potential to generate tourism related commercial activity. She said each locally based ship, such as the P&O Cruises’ fleet and Carnival Cruise Lines’ Carnival Spirit – to be joined seasonally later this year by Carnival Legend – accounted for 100,000 passengers annually. “I am very ambitious for the industry,” Ms Sherry said referring to its long value chain generating nearly $3 billion in total economic activity in Australia in 2012-2013, according to the most recent Cruise Downunder study.
