Carnival Australia’s Five Sydney-based Cruise Ships in Colourful Salute to the Navy

PACIFIC JEWEL PENNANTS SALUTE NAVYCarnival Australia’s five Sydney-based cruise ships – P&O Cruises’ Pacific Jewel and Pacific Pearl, Carnival Cruise Lines’ Carnival Spirit and Princess Cruises’ Sea Princess and Dawn Princess – will salute the Royal Australian Navy and its fleet centenary celebration in distinctive style.

From now and throughout the Navy’s International Fleet Review period to October 11, each ship will fly pennant flags from their main mast denoting the number 100 to mark the Navy’s 100th anniversary celebration.

On arrival and departure from Sydney, Pacific Jewel, Pacific Pearl, Carnival Spirit, Sea Princess and Dawn Princess will fly the special salute as the ships sail past the Navy’s home at Garden Island where ships from navies from around the world will assemble.

“The International Fleet Review marking one hundred years since the arrival of the Royal Australian Navy fleet in Sydney in October 1913 is going to be one of the most spectacular celebrations ever staged on the harbour, a must-not-miss event,” Carnival Australia CEO Ann Sherry said.

“As a seafaring organisation with a shared maritime heritage, we are delighted that our ships home-ported in Sydney can offer the Royal Australian Navy a colourful salute in this very special way,” Ms Sherry said.

“The use of pennants to mark the Navy centenary is a simple but effective way to connect the era when the ships first sailed through Sydney Heads to the modern day activities of the Navy’s current fleet.”
