The supervisory board approved Prof. Dr.-Ing. Engelbert Lütke Daldrup’s proposal to make Mr Carsten Wilmsen the Head of Construction and Engineering of Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH. Mr Wilmsen will begin his work with the airport company in November 2018. With his knowledge and vast experience with airport expansion and development from his previous career, he is an important asset to FBB. With the implementation of the 2040 BER masterplan, Wilmsen is undertaking a task of great importance for the development of BER.

The 50-year-old civil engineer first worked for the engineering company Masuch + Olbrisch mbH in Hamburg. From 1999 to 2011, he then held various management positions at Flughafen Hamburg GmbH, including General Project Manager for airport development, Head of Real Estate Management, and authorised signatory and member of the extended management board. Mr Wilmsen joined Flughafen München GmbH in 2011 where he was the Head of Planning and Construction Services, among other responsibilities, and is currently Head of Real Estate Management and Chairman of the Shareholders’ Meeting of Flughafen München Baugesellschaft mbH.

As Head of Construction and Engineering, Carsten Wilmsen will be responsible for the implementation of the 2040 BER masterplan as well as for the fields of Facility Management and IT. Construction of the T2 terminal, which is due to start in the next few weeks, is currently underway. If possible, T2 is to go into operation together with BER passenger terminal T1 in October 2020.

Mr Wilmsen will take over the preparations for the establishment of a project company to implement important building construction projects of the BER masterplan. The central project of this company will be the construction of Terminal T3, which is to replace the operation of the current Schönefeld Airport by the end of 2025.

The construction division for the completion of the passenger terminal at BER will continue to report directly to the CEO, Mr Lütke Daldrup.

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Engelbert Lütke Daldrup, CEO of Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH: “I am delighted that we have finally succeeded in finding a competent and experienced manager to implement the steps defined in the masterplan. Carsten Wilmsen is not only a new man for the implementation of our expansion programme, but also a true asset to the management team of the airport company. With him on board, I can work towards the completion of the BER with all my might, while Mr Wilmsen takes on the important task of gradually developing the BER in line with future rising demand.”
