Spread the love

On 28 June from 21:00, for the third consecutive year, the colours of the rainbow will once again light up the façade of Casa Batlló, in support of the rights of the LGBTI community

Since 2017, Casa Batlló has been lighting up its façade with the colours of the rainbow to celebrate the International Day of LGBTI Pride.

This initiative emerged as a way to defend the freedom of all individuals, to prevent them from suffering discrimination, inequality or isolation of any type due to their condition, sexual orientation and/or gender identity. Casa Batlló was the first museum in the world to join the Barcelona Pride parade in its 2018 edition. The Casa Batlló team, with over 70 musicians from the Music Has No limits company, along with dancers and acrobats, put on a show that was enjoyed by over 60,000 people.  Under the motto “The House of all”, Casa Batlló celebrated love, diversity and freedom.

The actions promoted by Casa Batlló in favour of the LGBTI community contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals that, in 2015, UNESCO included in the Policy Document for the Integration of a Sustainable Development Perspective into the Processes of the World Heritage Convention. This document calls for World Heritage sites to set a good example in the application of the highest standards of respect and fulfilment of human rights.

Thanks to Casa Batlló’s dedication to promoting respect for LGBTI rights, it has become a pioneer among World Heritage sites and among Museums in Barcelona and around the world, as demonstrated by the exchanges that have taken place with international institutions such as the International Council of Museums (ICOM) and the Stonewall 50 Consortium in New York.
