Malaysia is well known for its stunning marine life, picturesque dive sites and amazing food. However, you mightn’t know is that it’s also home to one of the world’s largest and most exciting off-shore catch and release fishing competitions – the Royal Pahang Billfish International Challenge, which is scheduled to take place from 23 – 25 September 2016 off the east coast of the Malay Peninsula.
While less well known than Penang and Langkawi, Pahang’s popularity is on the ascendancy. Last year the eastern Malay state attracted more than 9.3 million tourist arrivals. This year the number of visitors is expected to swell significantly throughout September as fishing enthusiasts from around the globe flock to Rompin and nearby Tioman Island to watch some of the world’s best fisherman battle for supremacy in this most physically demanding of competitions.
Next month organisers are preparing to welcome more than 250 international competitors and 50 teams who will participate in this year’s event, ensuring this year’s Royal Pahang Billfish International Challenge will be the most successful event to date. The event itself will take place at Lanjut, Kuala Rompin, colloquially known as the Billfish Capital of Asia, where sailfish and marlin spend much of their time in the temperate coastal waters during their active migration season.
Known for their stark beauty and tenacious fighting spirit, the breathtaking aerial acrobatics of Malaysia’s Bill Fish guarantee this event will be exciting for participants and spectators alike.
And as well as all the live fishing action, Pahang boasts a fantastic range of other attractions sure to appeal to the entire family including Kuala Gandah Elephant Sanctuary, the Mossy Forest, Cameron Bharat Tea Plantation, Rainbow Waterfall, Big Red Strawberry Farm and Time Tunnel Museum.
Top hotel picks in Pahang include Ancasa Royale Pekan Pahang, Vistana Kuantan City Centre and Japamala Resort by Samadhi.
So channel your inner Ernest Hemingway and make for Malaysia this Spring for a truly spectacular holiday experience.
