This week marks the 25th anniversary of Cathay Pacific’s services between Hong Kong and Cairns.  The first flight into Cairns was in October 1993.http://www.tourismthailand.org/landing/landing_en.html

Cairns Airport Chief Commercial Officer of Aviation, Paul McLean, congratulated Cathay Pacific saying that the airline has played a significant role in the growth of international tourist number to the region over the past 25 years.

“Cathay Pacific currently operates three services per week to Cairns. These direct flights offer international visitors convenient access to Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef”.

“With Cathay Pacific’s extensive worldwide network local people can connect directly to 53 countries and 207 destinations worldwide.

“Cathay Pacific services out of Cairns each week and give locals the opportunity to travel directly to Europe, Asia, Middle East and North America” Mr McLean said.

Regional South West Pacific General Manager of Cathay Pacific Rakesh Raicar, applauded the backing the airline had received from the local community over the past 25 years.

“We are proud to have been part of the Far North Queensland community over the past 25 years, and are incredibly grateful for all the support. It certainly is a fantastic milestone for Cathay Pacific and we look forward to celebrating many more milestones together in the future “.

There will be a small presentation with Norris Carter, Cairns Airport CEO and Cathay Pacific Cairns staff on Friday morning at 8.45am in the International Terminal check in area (T1).
