The Philippines’ leading carrier, Cebu Pacific (PSE: CEB), will commence direct service between Manila and Melbourne, Australia on August 14, 2018. This is CEB’s second destination in Australia following the launch of its direct Manila-Sydney route in 2014.
To celebrate its newest international route, Cebu Pacific is holding a seat sale for the Melbourne-Manila route from February 27 until March 3, 2018, valid for travel from August 14 to October 31, 2018. The special promo fare for the Melbourne launch is AU$109. After the seat sale, year-round low fares between Melbourne and Manila start as low as AU$328, about 50% to 60% lower than prevailing fares of other airlines.
CEB will fly three times weekly (TuesdayThursdaySaturday) between Melbourne and Manila with the following schedule:
ETD (local time) ETA (local time)
Melbourne-Manila 5J 050 T/TH/Sat 5:05pm 11:15pm
Manila-Melbourne 5J 049 T/TH/Sat 6:05am 3:50pm
“We’re thrilled to add more direct flights to Manila, opening up greater opportunities for Victorian jobs and businesses. Securing this new Cebu Pacific route means we’ll soon have 35 international airlines flying in and out of Melbourne Airport – and that’s great news for our airline industry and economy,” said John Eren, Minister for Tourism and Events of the Parliament of Victoria, Australia.
Boasting of thousands of islands, pristine beaches and marine biodiversity, the Philippines is gaining popularity among Australian travelers as a holiday destination. A former Spanish colony, the country also boasts of historical landmarks, as well as a diverse retail, vacation and dining scene that appeal to budget and even luxury travelers.
“We share the excitement of the Filipino community in Melbourne and Australian travelers who want to experience the Philippines. The launch of our service between Melbourne and Manila will give travelers from Australia seamless connections to other destinations in the Philippines at year-round low fares. This will enable Filipinos living in the Melbourne area to visit their families more often, and encourage more Australian tourists to spend their holidays in the Philippines,” said Candice Iyog, Vice-President for Marketing and Distribution of Cebu Pacific.
“More importantly, we hope to strengthen trade between the Philippines and Australia through more cargo capacity on direct flights that are more affordable. This will benefit importers and exporters, as well as retailers bringing products in both countries.”
Cebu Pacific is the only Low-Cost Carrier flying directly between Australia and the Philippines.
“We are thrilled to secure Cebu Pacific Air at Melbourne Airport in a move that creates more choice and frequency for travelers flying to and from the Philippines and beyond. There is significant traveler demand in the route especially in the visiting friends and relatives market, as well as the growing business traveler market segment,” added Melbourne Airport Chief of Aviation Simon Gandy.
The Melbourne-Manila service leads CEB on another expansion path across the region, further boosting a network that now spans over 106 routes on 37 domestic and 26 international destinations. Cebu Pacific is expecting delivery of the first of its brand new Airbus A321CEO aircraft in the next few weeks. Between 2018 and 2022, CEB expects delivery of six additional Airbus A321ceo, 32 Airbus A321neo, and eight ATR 72-600.
