Celebrate Australia Day by the sea in Port Stephens January 26, 2017

Lamington beer, air force fly-pasts, a street parade, country show and free Aussie barbecues and family-friendly celebrations will help visitors and locals in Port Stephens mark Australia Day, with events on January 26, 2017, centred on five locations across Port Stephens:

Nelson Bay

The first-ever ‘Love Summer, Love Nelson Bay’ program continues with a full-day of bayside activities on Australia Day including a street parade from Laman St to Rotary Park at Fly Point at 9am followed by free dance and musical performances on stage at the park from 9.45am to 4pm. A citizenship and awards ceremony will take place on the stage at 1pm while the celebration will also feature RAAF fly-pasts, food stalls, free pony rides, face painting, ice blocks, slide and jumping castle for kids, farm, reptile and vintage car displays.

The popular eco-themed Sacred Tree Markets will along the Nelson Bay foreshore from 4-9pm on Friday, January 27. 

Lemon Tree Passage

A free BBQ breakfast will kick off festivities at Henderson Park in the waterside village of Lemon Tree Passage from 8-11.30am on January 26. Free music from a bush band and army band will also entertain the crowd. 

Karuah

The Karuah RSL Club will host an Australia Day celebration on January 26 modelled on a country show. The event from 9am-9pm includes, food and cooking competitions, thong throwing, bowls and live music. The event ends with a fireworks display. Funds raised will support local fire brigade volunteers.

Raymond Terrace

A free Aussie breakfast at Riverside Park at 8am begins Australia Day events in Raymond Terrace, followed by a civic ceremony at 9am and a day full of free entertainment, amusements, RAAF flyovers and speedboat demonstrations on the adjacent Hunter River.

Murrays Craft Brewery, Bob’s Farm 

Murray’s Craft Brewery will offer a free concert of classic Aussie songs from 12.30pm on January 26, a thong-throwing contest for kids and big kids from 3.30pm and the brewery will also concoct a special lamington beer for the occasion, to accompany lamb dishes curated for the day.
