Celebrate the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival with mooncakes, special menus and festive lantern decoration at Shangri-La Hotel, Dubai.

The Mid-Autumn Festival is observed on the 15th day of the eighth month on the Chinese calendar, falling on 4 October in 2017. The tradition, which is over 3,500 years old, also commemorates the end of the autumn harvest and is celebrated with the gathering of friends and family, worshiping of the moon and exchanging of mooncakes.

In ancient times, mooncakes were seen as an offering to the moon, however over the centuries these special cakes have become a staple of the Mid-Autumn Festival. Mooncakes are made with a pastry skin enclosing a sweet, dense filling such as red bean paste or fruits and vegetables, which symbolise completeness and togetherness.

In addition to mooncakes available for sale, Shang Palace, the signature Chinese restaurant of Shangri-La hotels worldwide, will be offering a special set menu from 28 September to 6 October. Priced at AED 118 per person, guests can delight in traditional delicacies including dim sum platters, sautéed shrimp with black truffle sauce and pan-seared Angus beef served with seasonal vegetables and Chef Xu’s house-made mushroom sauce.
