One of Sydney’s most popular pubs, Palace Hotel in Sydney’s Haymarket, is the place to be this Melbourne Cup Day with its large high definition flat screen to watch the race, a delicious brasserie menu, and a wide range of prosecco and racing-themed cocktail specials.

On Tuesday 5th November, Australia’s major thoroughbred horse race will take place, with celebrations at Palace Hotel commencing at 12 noon and continuing throughout the afternoon.  Lunch can be ordered from the Hotel’s popular brasserie menu, and there will be $5 and $10 racing sweepstakes, a fresh flower wall with horse prop for photos, and prizes for best dressed male and female and best headpiece.

Channel 7 media identity Rufus Barr will MC the event, with live Broadway-style entertainment provided by Izzy Hanly and her accompanist.

Palace Hotel General Manager, Paul Walker, said this Melbourne Cup event is a wonderful opportunity to organise a group of friends or work colleagues to dress up and enjoy all the action and drama of ‘the race that stops a nation’.

“Even if you don’t know anything about the horses racing, Melbourne Cup is a great excuse to have some fun with friends, have a punt on which of the horses you think will win or take your luck with the sweepstakes,” Paul said.

Palace Hotel Sydney is located on the corner of George and Hay Streets in Sydney’s Haymarket.

The Hotel is an important landmark in Sydney, and the charm of its history, combined with the warmth created through its restoration in the last decade, provides a unique dining and drinking venue.

Palace Hotel is open from 10am to very late daily, with the brasserie open 11am to 9pm daily.
