An impressive business duo at the helm of one of New Zealand’s emerging high-growth companies have future growth and continued success on their minds.unnamed-2MajorDomo founders and directors Fiona Stevens and Lisa Hayden have just celebrated the third anniversary of their business. MajorDomo provides visitors to New Zealand with the highest standard of stunning villas, luxury lodges and boutique hotels, inspirational experiences and concierge services.

MajorDomo was named the Fastest Growing Technology Business in Otago and the lower South Island at the 2016 Deloitte Fast 50 regional awards, and later this month joins other winning companies from around the country at the annual Deloitte Festival of Fast Growth.

The company’s in the running for a spot in the nationwide Fast 50 ranking, now in its 16th year in New Zealand.

While “thrilled and delighted” to have their hard work and extraordinary business growth recognised with the regional award, Fiona and Lisa are looking forward to the opportunity to listen and learn at the Fast Growth Festival, where they’ll hear from business leaders, entrepreneurs and Fast 50 alumni.

“The regional award has already recognised our business growth married with our early adoption of the latest online technology,” said Lisa.

“We’re unique in that we’re delivering luxury accommodation and concierge services and experiences initially through a website that looks attractive and is constantly tweaked and updated, including going fully mobile capable in our second year of business.

“Historically potential guests at the higher end of the market haven’t been comfortable booking or even making initial enquiries online, but we’re not just another booking portal. We come across as more trustworthy and knowledgeable than that, and people realise they still get that superior service on the ground.

“It was really important for us to have been the first major villa accommodation provider in Queenstown with that mobile capability, before guests come to town and also for ease of communication during their stay.”

Latest research shows that well over 50% of travellers who book trips via digital channels do so using a mobile device, and even more use mobiles or tablets once they’re away.

Director Fiona Stevens said the company website was its shop front, other than clients who heard about the accommodation, experiences and services offered through word-of-mouth.

“For the luxury tourism industry where it is so ‘high touch’, to have successfully married that with the latest technology is very exciting.

“We’re at the forefront of a new era of ‘tech companies’ that don’t fit the traditional mould. Lisa and I just might be two of the only female fifty-somethings to have won a Fast 50 award in this area!”

Making the Deloitte Fast 50 is recognised as a significant achievement! Now in its 16th year, the competition highlights both established and emerging high-growth businesses in New Zealand.

MajorDomo is based in Queenstown and markets a wide range of properties around Central Otago and throughout New Zealand.

“The award coincides with our business continuing to expand, and we’re excited to take our strategy forward over the next three years,” said Fiona.

Deloitte Private partner Bill Hale says the high level of diversity among this year’s regional winners shows any type of business, from anywhere in New Zealand, can do well with the right approach.

“These companies live and breathe innovation, challenge the status quo and have the determination and drive that’s seen them achieve phenomenal year-on-year growth,” says Mr Hale.

“A common theme behind their success is the ability to identify and then capitalise on a point of difference from their competitors. They do a specific thing very well and they really try and nail that niche.”
