Celebrations for His Majesty the King’s 86th Birthday

13291201018pThe Government is preparing to hold various events and activities in celebration of His Majesty the King’s 86th birthday anniversary on 5 December 2013.
Speaking after a meeting of the Organizing Committee for the Celebrations, Permanent Secretary of the Prime Minister’s Office Professor Tongthong Chandransu said that the Bureau of the Royal Household would ask His Majesty the King for royal approval of the organizing of royal ceremonies to mark this auspicious occasion, scheduled for 5-8 December 2013.

The meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, was told that a tribute-paying ceremony would be held at 10:30 a.m. on 5 December at Amarindra Vinicchaya Throne Hall within the Grand Palace. The schedule is up for His Majesty’s consideration. On this occasion, the Royal Thai Armed Forces Headquarters will prepare a ceremony for the Royal Guards to take the Oath of Allegiance, also at 10:30 a.m. on 5 December, in front of Sala Sahathai Samakhom within the Grand Palace.

It will also hold orchestral performances by the three armed forces and the Royal Thai Police and brass band performances by various schools in honor of His Majesty the King on 17 December at the Army Stadium on Vibhavadi Rangsit Road in Bangkok. On 21 December, a fireworks display will be arranged in the Hua Hin District Office area, Prachuap Khiri Khan province. The general public will have a chance to view this spectacular firework display in celebration of His Majesty’s 86th birthday.

On the part of the Government, it will organize an exhibition between 29 November and 10 December at the Siam Paragon Shopping Center in Bangkok. The exhibition, featuring His Majesty the King’s life and work, is divided into three parts. The first part is on the royal status according to the Constitution of Thailand. For instance, His Majesty serves as Head of State, the Highest Commander of the Armed Forces, and the Upholder of All Religions.

The second part features various titles presented to His Majesty. For instance, he is recognized as the Teacher of the Land, the Father of Development Work, the Father of Thai Crafts Standards, and the Father of Royal Rainmaking.

The third part features the honors and accolades that have been conferred on His Majesty the King by universities and institutions, in Thailand and in various countries. It also mentions patents presented to His Majesty for his inventions.

Apart from the exhibition, there will be panel discussions and other activities relating to the exhibition, as well as a bazaar of products in connection with the celebrations.

The Organizing Committee for the Celebrations of His Majesty the King’s 86th Birthday Anniversary will hold another meeting in the third week of November in order to follow up on preparations for various activities to mark this special occasion.
