Jinjuu, a celebration of the modern Korean Anju culture of ‘eating while drinking’, is now open in Lan Kwai Fong. A passion project conceived by French trained Korean-American Londoner Judy Joo, Jinjuu comes to Hong Kong in partnership with Lan Kwai Fong Entertainment. This modern take on Korean tastes gives guests an experience that is not traditionally Korean, but uniquely Korean.
“Jinjuu is based on the Korean philosophy that drinking should always be accompanied by good food. At Jinjuu, the focus is as much on food as cocktails.” says Judy.
Located in California Tower, in the heart of Lan Kwai Fong the Jinjuu concept was first opened in London in late 2014, and was recognised by Michelin Guide, who stated: “American-born celebrity chef Judy Joo’s first London restaurant is a celebration of her Korean heritage. The vibrant dishes, whether Bibimbap bowls or Ssam platters, burst with flavour and are as enjoyable as the fun surroundings.”
A stylish restaurant and bar where a sophisticated interpretation of modern Korean dining comes to life, Jinjuu offers a menu encompassing both classic and street food fare. Must try dishes include a selection of Anju such as Jinjuu Prawn Crackers, and Jinjuu Carnitas Fries, an assortment of Korean Tacos, K-Town Mini Slider Buns, Mandoo – Korean dumplings, signature Korean Fried Chicken, mains to share from Off the Grill Ssam Platters and Bibimbap Bowls. Expect French style desserts with Korean touches.
“Cocktails are a big part of Jinjuu – our cocktails drive the concept!” says Executive Bar Manager Kristian Breivik who crafts innovative Korean inspired cocktails that take tipplers on a journey around fresh Soju tastes and Korean ingredients. Most of the cocktails are based on Soju, and the bar boasts the largest selection of soju in Hong Kong, as well as the largest selection of Korean beverages in general. Nutritional elements are incorporated into the cocktails, with the use of super fruits and vegetables such as kale, goji berries, kimchi and Korean ginseng. “We are introducing cocktails that are better for you,” Kristian promises. Jinjuu signatures are the White Rice Negroni and Kimchi Mary – a must for Bloody Mary fans.
The warm, cosy and inviting ambience is designed by Substance. The warehouse interior subtly juxtapositions elements of Korean culture with soft textures against industrial metal features. With an open bar concept and wide open spaces, Jinjuu moves easily from casual day time gathers to a sophisticated late night party venue.
At Jinjuu expect a lot of big bold flavours. Open daily, the venue serves lunch, afternoon tea, dinner and late into the night.
