Bangkok, Remy Cointreau International, a major operator in the world of spirits on the international stage, is toasting Thailand’s importance as a discerning cognac market with a visit from Cellar Master of the House of Rémy Martin, Baptiste Loiseau, at Club Kavia, Compass Sky View Hotel.

Only the present Cellar Master for Rémy Martin since one was first appointed around 95 years ago, Baptiste is the first to travel to Thailand. By revealing the secret techniques that make this close to 300-year producer creating the world’s best cognac to VIP guests, Baptiste hopes his trip will enhance the already-blossoming relationship with Thailand’s cognac customers and connoisseurs.

“Being a Cellar Master is a vocation. To be able to share my passion for the distinctive quality of Rémy Martin cognacs and the craftsmanship that has been finely tuned over centuries with cognac lovers in Thailand is a true privilege. I’m looking forward to inviting our Thai customers to discover a little more about the dedication and expertise that goes into producing our Maison Rémy Martin cognac collection to enhance their appreciation even further.”

The smooth yet rich flavour of Rémy Martin cognacs is down to the use of superior grapes specifically from the Cognac region of France, with a double distillation process in copper pot stills. This so-called eau-de-vie is then aged for a minimum of two years in oak barrels. Still in his 30s, and appointed as Cellar Master in 2014, Baptiste is the youngest person to take over the highly prestigious role. He oversees every part of the distinctive cognac journey from the grape all the way to the glass, with some cognacs aged for decades.

An exquisite testament to the knowledge of Baptiste Loiseau, and the Cellar Masters who are part of the Rémy Martin legacy, is LOUIS XIII Cognac. A spectacular blend of up to 1,200 grape eaux-de-vie from the first cru of the region, Grande Champagne, each Cellar Master selects the best of the best eaux-de-vie to be passed down to the successor.

Rémy Cointreau Marketing Director for Thailand, Kittipat Chaiyakul highlights the sense of lineage and connection between the Cellar Masters in creating LOUIS XIII Cognac. “It is our privilege to welcome Baptiste Loiseau, the Cellar Master of House of Rémy Martin’s, on his first official visit Thailand. Our Cellar Master Baptiste Loiseau combines his talent in the art of cognac to choose the eaux-de-vie that will stand the test of time when it is produced a century from now, a symbol of his life achievement with the House of Rémy Martin. He has also created a LOUIS XIII Cognac masterpiece from the excellent selections of his predecessor, Rémy Martin’s first female Cellar Master, Pierrette Trichet. It’s a wonderfully rich tale of tradition, longevity and luxury for a cognac that was first produced close to 150 years ago.”

Creating the discernible taste and signature aroma of the Rémy Martin House style is a challenge Baptiste rises to with a sense of respect, responsibility and tradition, while adding his own spirit of innovation too. A native of Cognac, the hallmarks of being a fine producer of cognac are in his roots and inspire his interest in the whole process. This includes selecting the eaux-de-vie and having a good relationship with individual producers, tasting blends with suppliers and managing the ageing and blending elements.

Baptiste has created his own unique single-vat blend, Carte Blanche à Baptiste Loiseau, while being at the helm of continuing to produce the opulent XO signature cognac made with a perfect blend of up to 400-eaux-de-vie. Other renowned members of this exclusive family include the iconic VSOP Fine Champagne Cognac and the rich and rounded 1738 Accord Royal.
