March 15, 2014 Appointments No Comments Email Email

egtmedia59Needless to say that Chatrium Hotel Royal Lake Yangon is one of finest and most perfect properties in the whole of Myanmar, offering excellent and exclusive accommodation tailored to the short- and long-term needs of international business and leisure travelers.

Chatrium Hotel Royal Lake Yangon is participating in the global efforts to protect the world’s fragile ecosystem for future generations to come. Under the corporate social responsibility’s environmental theme “Think First, Think Earth” the hotel is earnestly committed to all policies and practices aimed at lessening its carbon footprint, while at the same time fulfilling a superior hospitality experience.

In this context, it was not a real surprise that Chatrium Hotels & Residences based in Bangkok has announced in January 2014 the appointment of Ms May Myat Mon Win as the new General Manager (GM) of the Chatrium Hotel Royal Lake Yangon, who remarkably is the first female GM within the long history of the hotel. As her former boss, GM Bhongbhichai Bhitakburi, suffering from heart decease, had to return to Bangkok, Ms May Myat Mon Win took over having held the position of “Assistant General TAT-banner250X250pxManager” in the hotel for four years already.

Actually, Miss May Myat Mon Win’s professional career encompasses a nearly 20 years experience in the hospitality industry. Starting in 1994 as a “secretary” to the Financial Controller at the Summit Parkview Hotel in Yangon, she moved to the former Nikko Royal Lake Yangon in 1998 and climbed the ladder to become Director of Sales & Marketing. When the hotel was re-branded as Chatrium Hotel Royal Lake Yangon in April 2008, she stayed on and became its Assistant General Manager in 2010. Finally, her time to become “GM” arrived at the beginning of 2014.

Holding a Master Degree in Business Administration from the Institute of Economics, University of Yangon, Ms May Myat Mon Win is also an Executive Committee Member of the Myanmar Tourism Marketing Committee (MTMC) and was often seen to represent the hotel at the annual events of the Thailand Travel Mart Plus (TTM+) and ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF).

Commenting on her appointment, Ms Savitri Ramyarupa, Managing Director of Chatrium & Residences said: “This is a well-deserved appointment as Ms May Myat Mon Win has shown tremendous dedication to her work. Her leadership skills and concerns for colleagues in our organization are clearly demonstrated. She has also utilized her knowledge and extensive experience to deliver superb services as well as building a great relationship with our customers.”

As a married woman with three sons, the now 40 years old is very happy to become the first female GM of the Chatrium Hotel Royal Lake Yangon, where celebrities and high officials used to stay. When I visited her in February this year, she told me that one of her last famous visitors in the hotel was the Federal President Joachim Gauck from Germany (see attachment).

The Chatrium Hotel Royal Lake Yangon is a luxury 5-star property. It features marvelous views of the nearby Shwedagon Pagoda, one of the wonders of the world, and is centrally located near the Kandawgyi Lake. With its 301 exclusive guestrooms, including 37 suites, the hotel features three restaurants, namely the all day dining Emporia, Tiger Hill Chinese Restaurant, and Kohaku Japanese Restaurant, as well as the Lobby Lounge, Pool Bar and the Ritz Exclusive Lounge. Other features include a 435 square meters ballroom and five function rooms next to an outdoor swimming pool and a sophisticated Health Club. Last not least, there is the facility of Nemita Spa for relaxation.
