A Halloween Tale – Mysteries of the Cave  Famous literary figures (Dracula, Dorian Gray and Frankenstein’s Monster among them) come to life and take up residence inside Gough’s cave as they seek help in unravelling the mystery of strange happenings inside Gough’s Cave. Visitors will be given case files containing important clues as they journey down into the prehistoric cave filled with spectacular secret caverns, hidden chambers and remarkable rock formations.  Normal admission: Adults £19.95 (£16.95 online), Children £14.95 (£12.70)

Foodie of the Week

Brown & Forrest Smokery, Bowdens Farm, Hambridge, TA10 0BP    Mon-Sat  9-4pm

A small family run smokery, that has been producing a whole range of smoked foods including smoked eel, salmon, trout, chicken, duck and lamb for 37 years. Using a wood fired system it specialises in small scale batches, smoked to order, by either hot smoking (1-2 hour long process) or cold smoking (15-20 hours and ideal for salmon, trout, haddock, kippers, hams and cheese). The smokery has a well stocked shop, with hampers and selection packs available, and a fully licenced restaurant serving homemade quiches, terrines and pies, as well as its trademark bread & butter pudding and freshly made soups.

1st December – Smokery Open Day with product tastings and tours of the smokehouse.

Exmoor National Park’s celebration of its dark skies.  A programme of events including a family Astro Party at Wimbleball Lake; planetarium with 360° experience of the solar system; a night walk during an Orionid meteor shower; night-navigation walks by Park Rangers; night swimming and mountain-biking; as well as traditional stargazing and astronomy talks.
