Celebrated chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten and Three on the Bund are set to launch the second venue of their vibrant Italian restaurant Mercato, in Lan Kwai Fong’s California Tower in June 2016.
Like its sister restaurant in Shanghai, Mercato Hong Kong will serve Italian food in the classic Chef Jean-Georges’ style. Its menu will reflect his signature flair for balancing flavors and textures – taking quality ingredients and treating them with simplicity to produce elegant dishes. The three Michelin-starred chef is noted for a unique, lighter style of cooking that avoids heavy meat-stock and cream-based sauces, He is in favor of refreshing flavors and textures from vegetable juices, fruit essences, light broths, and herbal vinaigrettes.
Another major feature of the restaurant is the Mercato Bar which will specialize in an original selection of cocktails made with the finest Italian spirits, freshly muddled fruits and aromatics. A diverse and fascinating array of Italian, old and new world wines is also available, making the Mercato Bar the perfect spot to enjoy a pre-dinner cocktail or late night drink.
Mercato Hong Kong shares the same interior design philosophy as Mercato Shanghai: bridging the organic and natural with elegance and emotive modernity. Furthermore, the designer Neri & Hu is bringing together the elements of Hong Kong’s markets, streets and landscape, redefining “farm chic” with a design that imparts a sensual feeling of comfort and light.
Chef Jean-Georges brings a wealth of experience to Mercato Hong Kong as the chef and restaurateur behind several Michelin-starred restaurants, the author of numerous cookbooks and veteran of many television appearances.
