The World Indigenous Tourism Alliance (WINTA) is honored to announce that Hereditary Chief Ian Campbell of the Squamish Nation (British Columbia, Canada) will join WINTA as a featured speaker at the Adventure Travel Trade Association’s 10th Adventure Travel World Summit (ATWS), 26-31 October 2013 in Namibia.

Chief Campbell is an accomplished orator and cultural ambassador for his people, and often incorporates traditional drumming, singing, dancing and elements of humor into his moving message that draws upon Indigenous wisdom and values to support community tourism development.250x250px

The ATTA’s Summit will bring together 650+ tourism industry professionals from around the world and marks the second year of the Adventure Travel Trade Association (ATTA) partnership with the World Indigenous Tourism Alliance (WINTA). This partnership continues to grow closer and stronger as the two organizations find new ways to bring mutual benefit and value to both organizations. WINTA will seek to build upon the success and popularity of the World Indigenous Tourism Forum hosted last year as an extension of the 2012 ATWS in Lucerne, Switzerland.

Chief Campbell and WINTA representatives, who will facilitate the Indigenous Tourism topic during the Summit’s Peer-to-Peer Exchange – a day-long program addressing important industry topics lead by subject-matter experts, also will be available throughout the Summit to meet and communicate with ATTA members and delegates about indigenous tourism. Chief Campbell and WINTA representatives will have the opportunity to visit various community conservancies and to share knowledge and experiences with Namibia’s tourism and community development leaders and specialists.

WINTA will attend the 2013 ATWS with representatives from Canada, USA, Sweden, Australia, and New Zealand – including Neville Poelina of Australia’s Uptuyu Adventures, one of this year’s ATWS scholarship winners for his efforts in building a sustainable business that benefits his local community and destination. Mr. Poelina is the chair of the Leadership Council for WINTA.
