Aspiring children performers took to the stage at Resorts World Theatre (名胜世界剧场) this afternoon in a public audition conducted by renowned Hong Kong actress Ms Nancy Sit (薛家燕).  Of the hopefuls who responded to the casting call, 14 successfully emerged from the first round of auditions to progress to the finals and vie for eight coveted stage roles in a new theatrical production coming to Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) (圣淘沙名胜世界) titled Super Mommy (我的妈妈是ENY).

With eight children roles to be filled for the Mandarin musical including two principal roles for the leading boy and girl, RWS held a public casting call for child performers together with Mother Hong Kong Arts Centre (家燕妈妈艺术中心), an arts centre founded by Nancy in 2004 aimed at grooming young talents in the performing arts.

The pool of fresh-faced and adorable talents, aged eight years and above, displayed commendable skills in acting, dancing and singing at the auditions, impressing the judges with their ability to deliver lines in eloquent Mandarin and charming everyone with their personalities.  Of them, the youngest candidate was eight years old whilst the eldest candidate was 13 years old.  The 14 shortlisted were identified by Ms Vanessa Lin (林奕君), Chief Executive Officer and Founder (创办人及行政总裁) of AM Creative as well as Executive Producer (音乐剧制作人) for Super Mommy, before coming face-to-face with Nancy in the finals.

Nancy, a multi-talented and well-respected performing artist, will personally select the best eight to join the cast for Super Mommy.  The eight chosen child performers will also be professionally coached by Mother Hong Kong Arts Centre before they go on stage at Resorts World Theatre this May and June 2018.

New Mandarin theatrical production – Super Mommy – to be staged at RWS

Super Mommy, a new Mandarin musical, tells the story of a three-generation family struggling to care for a grandfather diagnosed with dementia and the neglect of the young son who grows attached to the domestic helper as his mother figure.  The heart-warming and entertaining musical features original Taiwanese music composition and vocal performance by a cast of local and overseas artists.  It sheds light on pertinent societal issues every family grapples with today and promises to tug at one’s heartstrings, as it paints a touching story of love, dilemma and sacrifices.

Two of the eight child performers will be casted as Jeremy, the boy and his female neighbour whilst the remaining six will form the child ensemble cast.  They and the principal adult cast members, through their portrayals of various characters across three generations, will take theatre goers on a reflective life journey in this endearing musical presented with many comedic yet poignant moments.
