China Southern Flies to Frankfurt via Chairman Mao’s Changsha

China Southern has announced that it will add the key European hub of Frankfurt to its expanding Canton Route network in June.

From June 20 flights will operate from Guangzhou to Frankfurt via Changsha each Monday, Wednesday and Friday, arriving in Germany about 0600 the following day.

“Changsha in Hunan Province is where Mao Zedong was educated and developed his political ideals so it makes for an intriguing stopover for anyone interested in Chinese history,” said China Southern Regional Manager Australia and New Zealand Henry He.

In Chairman Mao’s own words, Changsha is an inspiring place ‘On the tip of Orange Island, the Hsiang  flowing northward, I see a thousand hills crimsoned through by their serried woods deep-dyed and a hundred barges vying over crystal blue waters’.

The city of seven million people is also the departure point for visits to Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, home of the impressive mountain columns which inspired the fictional universe of Pandora in James Cameron’s 3D blockbuster Avatar.

Frankfurt will be the airline’s sixth European port, alongside Amsterdam, London, Paris, Moscow and Istanbul. It will be serviced by a modern four-class A330-200 airliner with flat beds in First and Business Class and personal seatback screens throughout.

“The addition of Frankfurt is an important step in China Southern’s globalisation as it further strengthens our growing European network and makes our airline a more compelling choice for Australian travellers wanting to travel via China on our Canton Route to the world,” Mr He said.

From its Guangzhou hub, China Southern’s Canton Route reaches almost 200 destinations in 35 countries and more than 150 Chinese ports through the world’s most extensive domestic network.
