Chinachem Eco-Walk 2.0, Hong Kong’s largest single-day eco activity, will take place at the Aberdeen Reservoirs on 19 November (Sunday). The route measures about 3.4km in length, starting from the entrance of the Aberdeen Reservoirs and ending at Wan Chai Gap Park. The 2.5-hour walk will take participants through a verdant path with views of distant mountains beyond the calm waters of the reservoir. The experience of Eco-Walk 2.0 is designed in partnership with Walk in Hong Kong, a local walking tour company. Themed on a journey from past to future, the event will empower participants with knowledge about local culture and history while immersed in an up-close encounter of Hong Kong’s natural heritage.

Complementing the 40th anniversary of the Country Parks in Hong Kong, Chinachem Eco-Walk 2.0 begins with a review of the origin of local country parks, followed by snapshots throughout history of Aberdeen Reservoirs. Along the route will be 10 narration stops where participants can learn through dramatic skits different aspects of Hong Kong’s green history. Topics covered will include:  the original ownership of Aberdeen Reservoir by Tai Shing Paper Factory and subsequent acquisition by the Hong Kong Government for development into Upper and Lower Aberdeen Reservoirs; the designation of the Italian Renaissance style main dam as a historical monument; changes in civic life throughout the Aberdeen Reservoirs’ history of development, and more. Adults and kids alike will find it extra meaningful to enjoy nature while learning about local history, culture and conservation.

Proceeds from the event, without deducting for any expenses, will matched dollar-for-dollar by Chinachem and donated to World Green Organisation for the ‘School Electricity Benchmarking Tool’ to help local schools benchmark their electricity usage and drive energy conservation for a greener Hong Kong.

Throughout its 57-year history, Chinachem Group has remained committed to the pursuit of sustainability as a core value and foundation of business development. Over the years, the Group has built initiatives around important themes such as social inclusion, arts and culture, environmental sustainability, aid for the less fortunate, and heritage preservation.
