Chinese Rate De Bortoli Wines As #1 On-Premise Red Wine Brand By The Glass

A survey of hotels and restaurants in China’s capital Beijing has found consumers rate De Bortoli Wines as the top red wine brand by the glass for under 100 Yuan or AUD$20*.

Global wine analytics experts MiBD Markets recently published results from their store-check survey of 160 venues in Beijing during 2017, finding the fourth-generation, family-owned Australian winery outshone almost 12,700 wines being poured from around the world.

Victor De Bortoli, third generation and Executive Director at De Bortoli Wines, attributed the number one rating to booming demand from young, middle class Chinese choosing affordable, quality wine over beer and spirits to enjoy with dinner.

“We have seen phenomenal growth over the past two years and we have been able to participate in it thanks to the work we have done over the last decade with our longtime distribution partner in China, Torres Wines, to introduce thousands of hoteliers and restaurateurs to wine that truly over delivers.

“The bottom line is our quality. At the house wine level our primary competition is from France, Chile and Spain and our expressive fruit is the best value for money in the world. My favourite thing to hear from customers is: “德保利就是性价比特好 (De Bao Li Jiu Shi Xing Jia Bi Te Hao)” or “De Bortoli always over deliver on quality”.”

Celebrating 90 years of family winemaking this year, De Bortoli Wines has been exporting to China for over 20 years, with sales doubling in the last three years.

Key De Bortoli brands being sold on-premise in Beijing include Willowglen and the DB Family Selection range, which are also sold across China and in what Mr De Bortoli describes as “literally the ‘finest’ dumpling making establishments in the world”.

Established in 1928 in the Riverina of New South Wales, De Bortoli Wines is Australia’s seventh largest wine exporter, selling to more than 75 countries including China, Japan, the United States, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Scandinavia; with emerging markets in Russia and the Middle East.

To commemorate its 90th anniversary, De Bortoli Wines has released a limited edition of Black Noble, the world’s only fortified made from botrytis grapes, which is available for sale in China and across Australia.
