The U.S. Travel Association honored Choose Chicago and U.S. Department of State official Edward Ramotowski with its Distinguished Partner awards for their efforts to support and advance travel to and across America. The awards were presented at Destination Capitol Hill, the travel industry’s premier legislative fly-in for promoting travel-friendly policies to support one of America’s strongest economic sectors.

Choose Chicago, the official destination marketing organization for Chicago, Illinois, received the 2015 Grassroots Travel Champion Award for exhibiting outstanding leadership in grassroots advocacy. Choose Chicago utilized numerous community outreach communications channels—from social and online media to direct contact and in-person engagement—to create local awareness of travel issues that helped drive action at the federal level.

“Choose Chicago was an easy choice for our inaugural Grassroots Travel Champion Award,” said U.S. Travel Association President and CEO Roger Dow. “Choose has organized more than a half dozen events with local members of Congress in the Chicagoland area, educating them on the tremendous economic impact of tourism. Their Choose Chicago Champions program is a model that we hope is adopted by other travel organizations throughout the country.”

As Deputy Assistant Secretary for Visa Services at the U.S. Department of State, Ed Ramotowski has helped create an environment that welcomes international visitors to the United States, who bring with them spending dollars and goodwill that have helped advance the U.S. economy and American public diplomacy. Romatowski oversees the Visa Office in Washington, D.C., two domestic processing centers, and visa operations at over 200 U.S. embassies and consulates abroad.

“The reach of America’s travel industry would not be as wide if not for the efforts of Ed and his colleagues at the State Department,” said Dow. “The ongoing efforts by this administration to make our shores traveler-friendly have made it possible for travel produce even more benefits for communities across America.”
