‘Christmas by the River’ delights with inaugural light-up

Christmas By The River-1The Singapore River was bathed in festive decorations and lights as the inaugural ‘Christmas by the River’ celebration was officially launched at a
ceremony that was attended by trade guests, Singapore River One (SRO) members, supporting government agencies and media on 15 November 2013.
Mr Khaw Boon Wan, Minister for National Development, graced the ceremony as the Guest-of-Honour and officially launched the six-week long celebration along Singapore River.Christmas By The River-4

SRO Chairman, Wilson Tan, began proceedings with a speech to highlight the achievements of SRO this past year.

“There is still much potential that we could develop in the Singapore River precinct. This can be a place where locals will come frequently, a must visit destination for tourists; and a choice location for investors”, he said, Christmas By The River-12“To achieve this, we must take a pro-active approach to manage the precinct and remain relevant not just locally but also internationally.”

Invited guests were treated to performances by Christmas choirs and Christmas troopers.

After the launch, they were invited to tour the Christmas Market along the River Promenade,,before boarding the River Taxi which brought them to the Arts House for a post-launch reception.Christmas By The River-19

Supported by the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) and official card sponsor, Visa, the year-end showpiece put up by Singapore River One (SRO) marks the start of the Christmas celebrations along the Singapore River. ‘Christmas by the River’ will comprise several activities at Boat Quay, Clarke Quay and Robertson Quay – where visitors can learn about and celebrate the magic of the Singapore River. This is the first-ever unification of the three
quays for a district-wide celebration since SRO became the Singapore River’s place manager last year.
