Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) welcomes the release of the Tasmanian Government’s 2017-2018 Cruise Market Update and Regional Ports Review announced today.
Cruise tourism provides significant economic opportunities for tourism operators, retailers, hospitality and other sectors. To that end the research report supports the growth of cruise tourism in Tasmania and examines market demand globally, the impact of cruise shipping in Tasmania, and the different options available to optimise the benefits of participation in this growing industry.
CLIA Australasia Managing Director Joel Katz said, “CLIA supports the Tasmanian Government’s commitment to work with the cruise industry, reinforcing our own focus on sustainable destination management.”
This Government initiative aims to foster solutions that support the increase in cruise tourism in the region, including encouraging regional dispersal.
“We applaud the Tasmanian Government for its undertaking to support the development of quality shore excursions to support the increase in cruise visitation in Tasmania. The state’s appeal continues to resonate with domestic and international travellers. The most recent Economic Impact Analysis reported that cruise passengers and crew spent $34.5 million in the state, with tourism operators, retailers and the hospitality sector benefiting from increased cruise visitation.
“This review is recognition of the growth of the cruise industry and the significant contribution that cruise delivers to Tasmania. We look forward to working with the Tasmanian Government to support the continued and sustainable growth of cruise tourism,” Mr Katz said.
