Clico Boutique Hotel turns 10! Come experience some fabulous dining to celebrate…

TEN YEARS AGO the owner of Clico Boutique Hotel created a small, urban hotel, offering personalized service, a home-from-home go-to for leisure and business travellers, with fabulous food.

 Travel-weary guests took delight in the extra large, feather-soft beds, private balconies overlooking the intimate garden spaces, attentive staff, and delicious dining as well as wine pairing options. They told their colleagues, friends and family about this hidden gem in leafy Rosebank, and, voila, the private little Eden so conveniently situated near the business and shopping hubs of Gauteng got busy.

 Today, Clico is also home to a stunning restaurant, completed last year, open to the public 7 days a week, offering alfresco as well as indoor dining options, while vistas of the private garden and age-old trees are still part and parcel of the relaxed ambience of the 5-star property.

Owner Jeanette Schwegman and her management have taken notice of their regular diners’ preferred menu choices over the past 10 years and will be celebrating this milestone birthday by including 10 timeless favourite dishes created by head chef Peter van Schaik and his team this winter, such as:

Confit salmon, vanilla star anise and juniper poached, turnip and apple puree, sea food essence, sweet and sour apple, watercress, liquorice and nasturtium; venison pie, burnt spring onion, truffle crème fresh, blueberry jus vinaigrette, pine emulsion.

Sea bass, burnt leek, celeriac and lemongrass puree, bok choy, braised fennel, turnips and ash aubergine puree, verjuice gel and fish bordelaise; coq au vin, red wine braised leg; roulade of thigh bacon wrapped mushroom duxelle,  button mushroom, braised baby onion and roast garlic; sirloin cap steak and braised beef agnolotti, pearl barley, burnt carrots, smoked beetroot and caramelised parsnip.

Chocolate mousse, raspberry centre, raspberries, cherry cigar dust;

caramelised pineapple, roast lime, coconut, butterscotch.

 History and achievements:

Launched mid-2006, by 2010 Clico was awarded 5-star status by the South African Tourism Grading Council; in 2010 Sabine Seeger was appointed general manager and now celebrates her 6th year as leader of the team; in 2011, Clico’s Events & Conference facilities were launched, and Clico was given Boutique Hotel status by the SA Tourism Grading Council that same year; in 2015 Clico Restaurant opened its brand new doors to offer a spacious, more convivial dining space spilling into the garden to replace the smaller dining room.

 Among its many accolades over the years, the most recent include Clico being awarded the coveted Certificate of Excellence for 2016, 2015 and 2014 by TripAdvisor, and voted into the top 25 Top Small Hotel as well as Top Luxury Hotel lists in South Africa by TripAdvisor travellers for 2014. Sabine and Jeanette were inducted as Chaine Des Rotisseurs members in 2012.

The Clico team looks forward to the next 10 years of hosting new and regular visitors to the 5-star Boutique Hotel, Restaurant, Conference & Events property.
