Meituan Travel is a one-stop travel platform owned by Meituan Dianping, unveiled in April 2017. The Meituan Travel app launched soon after in September. Up to now, it covers 340,000 domestic hotels, nearly 300,000 oversea hotels, 20,000 scenic spots, more than 70,000 short distance routes, 100,000 overseas air routes and 215 national stations. These products are easily accessed through a number of categories including “hotels”, “Bed & Breakfast”, “scenic spots tickets”, “short distance travel”, “air tickets”, and “leisure and entertainment”. In 2017, Meituan Travel sold over 200 million room nights and their ticket sales exceed 100 million.

The cooperation of Meituan Travel and Club Med will see complementary resources pooled to expand the depth of user experience for both companies, enhancing services as Chinese demand for travel and accommodation increases. The seamless sharing of data will help to define a more comfortable holiday booking experience by removing complex choices and delivering a more personalized service through the use of innovation and technology.

Chen Liang, Senior Vice President of Meituan-Dianping and President of Meituan Travel, said, “We are pleased to establish such a deep and global partnership with Club Med. Based on our mission to “Help everyone eat better and live better”, Meituan Travel will introduce Club Med’s world-renowned all-inclusive service, international gourmet, Mini Club, and colourful adventure activities to over 100 million of our users. We are committed to working with Club Med to offer everyone the opportunity for a happy holiday.”

As millennials in China are no longer merely satisfied with just the notion of a holiday, but now insist on more authentic and richer experiences, Meituan Travel has focused on providing higher-quality options for its users. The global partnership between Meituan Travel and Club Med reflects this change, as the increasing use of innovation and redefinition of how the Chinese enjoy their holidays is driving market consumption in the travel sector.

Henri Giscard d’Estaing, President of Club Med said, “Meituan Travel’s one-stop travel service platform aligns perfectly with our concept of “all-inclusive” offering for our Club Med customers. Chinese millennials are becoming the main consumers of high-end, quality experiences and this tie-up with Meituan Travels positions us well to serve the Chinese market. Meituan Travel and parent company Meituan-Dianping have facilitated the changing consumer behaviour of Chinese millennials and we are proud to partner with the group for future growth”.

Meituan Travel and Club Med also released the Millennial Consumer Behaviour Report which shows an extremely high rate of consumption amongst those born between 1984 and 2000, gradually establishing these millennials as the main force of high-end consumption in China. The pursuit of quality, a desire to explore, and a preference to have a relaxing vacation when on holiday are distinct characteristics of this group. Meituan Travel and Club Med have come together to create quality travel services for millennials in China.
