Club Med reveals European snow Resort, Val Thorens Sensations

August 27, 2014 Ski No Comments Email Email

Club Med is proud to unveil Val Thorens Sensations, a brand new, purpose built ski Resort with a prime ski-in, ski-out position that will open in December 2014.

Located in the heart of one of the most famous ski domains in the French Alps, the Trois Vallées, the Resort features stunning mountain views, direct access to the slopes and cuisine designed by a local Michelin-starred Chef.

Socially Customised

Drawing from the holiday customisation on which Club Med prides itself, many elements of Val Thorens Sensations were designed utilising the results from Club Med’s ‘My Val Thorens’ Facebook application, which invited Club Med’s 1.3 million Facebook users to vote for a range of features including the Resort’s name, logo, design features and activities. The results, garnered from 13 countries, created Val Thorens Sensations, a revolutionary Resort with exceptional skiing, novel catering concept, a focus on active wellness and a host of digital innovations.

Exceptional Skiing Conditions

The newest of Club Med’s 21 ski resorts around the world is located at the centre of the Trois Vallées, renowned as one of the world’s best ski domains. Val Thorens Sensations offers extraordinary skiing and après-ski pleasures in a splendid setting. In keeping with the youthful and contemporary feel of the area, this Resort is modern and innovative, with a festive, cosmopolitan ambience. The architecture by Studio Arch and interior design by Sophie Jacqmin seamlessly link the latest design trends to the local spirit, for a contemporary spin on Alpine culture. The architects designed the rooms with vast windows so visitors can take advantage of the stunning mountain panorama and get maximum exposure to the sun.

Val Thorens is the highest ski Resort in Europe with an altitude of 2,300m, located in one of the largest ski domains in the world.  It offers an exceptional skiing experience for visitors of all ages and abilities with 335 ski slopes to choose from as well as numerous snow activities, all included in the Club Med package. New snow activities on offer include winter mountain biking and an on-ice driving experience, which were chosen by the Facebook community.

Locally Inspired Gourmet Cuisine

Val Thorens Sensations will offer guests the joys of après-ski, expected to appeal to Australian holiday goers looking for an authentic European ski experience. Guests will be spoilt for choice with the food offerings from three different restaurants all serving delicious, local, gourmet foods that will evolve throughout the day.

The Resort’s new dining experience offers visitors the unique opportunity to dine from 7:30am until midnight in the main restaurant, which will feature a fresh buffet of local cuisine; a new concept restaurant, which will feature changing foods to suit the time of day including gourmet picnic lunch and tasting dinner; or a self-service take-away corner featuring quick and easy meal options.

The Resort’s main concept restaurant, Epicurious will feature a menu developed by Eduoard Loubet, a French master, two Michelin-Starred chef. A native of Val Thorens, Eduoard owes his love of local products to the prevalent fresh produce and herbs grown in the area. His passion for herbs and plants plays a starring role in his cooking with each dish paying homage to elements of his Savoyard childhood and the home-grown vegetation of Provence. At Club Med Val Thorens Sensations, Eduoard will be developing bespoke dishes for the dinner menu at Epicurious, as well as providing training to the Chef, Theirry Van Rillaer and his team.

Active Wellness

As Club Med’s first active wellness Resort in Europe, Val Thorens Sensations exudes a sportive energy through the state-of-the-art of fitness and wellness activities on offer. In addition to the world-class skiing experience, visitors can take advantage of the sophisticated fitness room, training courses, MATRIX equipment and cutting edge cardio training room at the Resort. As voted on by the Facebook community, Val Thorens Sensations will also feature a climbing wall with four climbing routes located in the heart of the atrium at the centre of the Resort. Other high-end wellness offerings will include the Club Med Spa by Carita and free access to a sleek Turkish bath facility.

Digital Innovations

This next generation Resort will feature a host of digital innovations to provide a seamless customer experience. Arrival is now made simpler with the new, easy check-in tool available online and mobile devices, which means guests can enjoy their holiday as soon as they arrive. Interactive screens, digital Kiosks and in-room TVs throughout the Resort will broadcast real-time information including services and activity schedules, surprise events, menu items and allow social media sharing for visitors. High-speed WiFi connectivity is available throughout the village, including on the slopes, and a dedicated Val Thorens Sensations app will provide booking capabilities and other need-to-know Resort information available at guests’ fingertips.

Madeleine Clow, Club Med Australia and New Zealand General Manager, says: “Val Thorens Sensations is a revolutionary addition to our ever-evolving, all-inclusive European snow holiday offering. The Resort’s location, nestled in the impeccable peaks of the French Alps, provides optimum ski conditions and our never-before-seen amenities offer a unique experience for visitors.

“In keeping with our focus on providing a customised experience for our guests, this is the first Resort to be co-created with our worldwide Facebook community, which gave our visitors and fans the opportunity to tailor the Resort based on what they wanted to see at our newest snow retreat. Additionally, the digital innovations at Val Thorens ensure holiday-makers enjoy a seamless customer experience from beginning to end.

“These innovations, paired with the excellent ski conditions, bespoke gourmet cuisine and sportive energy at Val Thorens Sensations, create a unique Resort that meets the needs of our diversified and international clientele and set the scene for an unforgettable, all-inclusive holiday.”
