From 12 April to 7 July, an evolving visual journey takes shape at SPRMRKT at Cluny Court as local artist Joanne Pang weaves an intricate narrative that explores the degrees of unpredictability in our every day conversation. http://www.stevecafeandcuisine.com/

Drawing inspiration from what is felt rather than what is heard, Pang masterfully dabbles with the complexities of pauses, disruption and the weight of unspoken words, feelings and gestures.

“Communication is a medium that we often take for granted, and its varying degrees of unpredictability calls for an indepth exploration of our conversation through art,” explains Joanne Pang. “I am delighted to work with SPRMRKT to showcase this intriguing series as we invite guests to experience the beauties in unspoken gestures and signs across human society and our natural environment.”

Building on her practice of exploring unspoken gestures and signs across human society and natural environment, Pang negotiates between the physical aspect of the painting and the immateriality of thoughts and time. Experimenting with the density and textures of various materials including ink, acrylic, and graphite, Pang finds a connection to herself through art.

In Species of Text and Spots, Pang examines the degrees of unpredictability in our conversations. Utilising a range of media, Pang explores the concepts of pauses, disruption, and the weight of unspoken words, feelings and gestures. Each stroke, gash and symbol in her abstract paintings and drawings juxtaposed with the use of noise and symbols, reveals gaps and progressions in our communication. With Pang’s spontaneous and rhythmic approach to art, the series Species of Text and Spots promises viewers an engaging and insightful visual journey.

As with every artist showcase, the team at SPRMRKT bolsters the exhibitions through the brand’s signature culturalculinary concept – matched with artist workshops and inspired dishes – ensuring guests will have their senses captivated, their minds inspired, and their bellies filled.

Inspired by Pang’s showcase, SPRMRKT’s culinary team whips up a special Dip Into My Dip (S$8++), available only during Pang’s showcase. Dip Into My Dip comprises of a tantalising starter of chickpea hummus speckled with pomegranate, and served with brioche soldiers and homemade sourdough. As a nod to the series’ theme of communication, Dip Into My Dip is a conversation starter that is intended to spark a conversation or two among guests.
